Modern Entry to a Story Long told. Ch3

It took Jace a moment but he stood and looked up the train for a moment, there was a figured aways down it was wearing a long coat.. or was it a cloak? either way Jace now starting to get his footing he started forward, he looked over both edges slowly as he made his way, a misstep would end him from this height and he knew it.

When he got to the break between cars he took a deep breath and jumped the three foot gap, he misjudged the air velocity pushing against him and stumble, fell and rolled to the side of the car his hands sliding looking for anything to grab before he slid off and plummeted into the forest below

For a split second was looking through a window and locked eyes with a man roughly his equivalent in size dawned in what seem like a mix of plate, chain and bone mail who was standing at the window, only his eyes visible cold blue eyes, so familiar yet so distant, he walked to the door and it opened, brandishing a halberd the soldier boosted Jace back up onto the roof, before Jace could look back down or try to enter the car the doors shut once again.

Jace sighed and looked ahead the cloaked figure had made its way further up the train, Jace started forward again and at the next gap took a jogging start, bent into the wind and cleared the gap with barely a stumble, picking up his pace to close the gap and make up for lost time Jace broke into a run and started to vault the gaps.

When finally on the same car as the one he had been chasing it… He turned to face him.

“Jace Duke Alvejetti, You’re the first to arrive, though I shouldn’t be surprised, you came highly recommended.”

Jace stood and stared for a moment as the man, his back to the wind, the cloak covering all features but his immense size, the man was built like a nuclear bunker and looked twice as experienced.

“You know my name, may I have the… pleasure of knowing yours?” Jace said snidely.

The man smirked then chuckled.

“Mustang would be an accurate definition of you.. feral, small but built.. You will address me as Sir if at all”

Jace cocked an eyebrow in annoyance as he stared at the man for a moment, was this all a test, the man said he was the first to arrive, was he expecting more? and who had described him as a Mustang was it the same who recommended him so highly?

Sir.. are we to wait for the others, or is there something else to this?”

“That.. is up to you, Whats your gut tell you to do?”
Jace blinked, His gut? who spoke like that anymore.. His instinct told him to either fight the man or find a way to get beyond him to the front of the train, then again if this was a test of some sort it might be what they were expecting, but was that such a bad thing?

It was nearly seven hours we spent alone on that train, and even that is only approximate as all technology had been stripped of us before boarding. I hadn’t had any to begin with but when the train ran relatively straight for a time I would try to judge from the sun trajectory and the shadows the current  time, the problem with this was when I announced this fact the windows were blacked out and interior light were brought up.

They were watching us, and listening as well.

At one point I approached a camera and poked it only to get a large discharge of electricity from it that knocked me on my ass, Soon I tried it again with a different camera, same thing. ‘So..’ I thought ‘They want to monitor us.. and we can’t take any liberties to stop them.’

“Who here isn’t afraid of a little electricity?” I asked knowing full well they had all saw me end up on the ground twice. The Psycho rose and walked over quietly followed by Daniel and his small click of Emo’s. “Form a chain with your hands and if you’re not too disgusted spit in them to up the conductivity, Daniel when I say go grab that camera” I motioned to the far end of the room to the other camera. Daniel nodded and the line was formed but before just trying to short the cameras a second thought struck, the door should be electric as well.

“Bend the chain, You schitzo attach to the middle of the chain, after I say go you wait a millisecond and place your free hand on the door” He nodded slowly and prepared to follow the command.

Jace reach up, the closer he got the more he could feel the hairs on his arm stand on end, he looked over and met Daniels eyes and nodded as he was in the same position…

He grabbed the camera, the shock flooded through his body but this time as it had a place to go it didn’t make him fly, He felt all of his muscles constrict as it flowed through him and into the girl next to him, then he heard a large Bzzzt! and Crack as the Psycho touched the door with his palm.

Everything went dark until a slit of light appeared from where the Psycho was should have been standing, Jace unclenched his hand from the camera as even though it was no longer shocking him his muscles still resisted relaxing, He slowly made his way to the door, He nudged someone with his foot who only groaned. He looked out the crack, placed his fingers in the crack and pulled it apart exposing the dusk light as the sun was going down, the train was on a track well above the ground, over one hundred feet jace guessed as he looked down at the tree tops of the forest they were seemingly flying over.

Jace leaned out and looked ahead he could see the rest of the train then tracks for as far as the eye could see, then something else caught his attention, someone else was climbing out of a car about five or six ahead of his, making there way to the roof, Jace watched for a moment then reached out and grabbed the top of the open door and began to climb up.

“Where are you going?” It was Daniel he looked back at him for a moment before responding. “I’m going to see what’s going on and where this thing is taking us, Stay here and keep command while I’m gone”
Jace hoisted himself up and out of the car and up onto the roof..

I stood outside the train with a slight anticipation. All I knew was they were taking us, Kids, with no other place to go, or those who had been selected, there had also been for a time before the drafting started a signup but most who did signup did not make it.

But one, a friend named Zack signed up willingly without a care, the reasons were his own that I could only guess at, I had received a letter from him about two weeks later, at first I hadn’t the idea from who or why I had received it as all it said was:

Board the Train, You of all people will not regret it.

– Knight

So when the time came and they began drafting from the classes at school, a lot of students clung to their parents to which I have none or fled to which I have nowhere to run, Next thing I knew I was here standing before this sleek bullet train with others around me weeping, some fighting, others just in awe and silence, much like myself.

When the doors opened the men who came out, oddly dressed in what looked like a mix of medieval armor and military uniforms split us into different cars, their order not seeming to make sense, I was placed with a mixed lot, the train car wasn’t what you would expect, pads lined the walls, the glass was thicker, almost bullet proof if I were to guess, there were no chairs but one of the others, a classmate named Daniel found out that the mats could be pulled from the walls with relative ease as they were only velcrowed there.

There was four cameras that from there angles could be guessed could see the entire car. By now the doors to the train car had shut, people had gathered by their emotional status in the car, That’s when I noticed it. There were criers, those still trying to escape, the emo kids which Daniel had taken his liking to, But I was the only like myself. I was the only one standing as the car lurched forward, the only one looking around analytically.

It was then one of the escapees, Psychos I would call them seemed to break and make a dash for the door trying to pry it open then turned to me. “You’re in on this aren’t you?, that’s the only reason you haven’t said anything! The reason you’re not freaking out WELL FUCK YOU!” The Psycho, a smaller boy about five nothing still in his school uniform swung on me, connected with my jaw tossing me into the wall. When I got up the rest of them had taken to their feet and stood behind the Psycho, I spit out a little blood and looked at all of them. “First of all..” Slam another hit this time to the temple causing dark spots around the edges of my vision. I had had enough I straightened my head and looked in time to see the next fist already plotted trajectory for my nose, I moved my head to the side and with one hand grabbed his arm pulling it further past my head with the other balled it into a fist and drove it into his stomach, still holding his arm I swept his legs from under him and as he fell I raised one leg above him and let the heel of my foot drop into his chest causing him to cough blood.
I looked at the others for moment behind him and clenched my hands so hard my knuckles cracked “If any of you would like a shot at me as well now would be the time to do it, If not and seeing as no security has burst in to stop this I am here and until told otherwise the master of this car” to sign my own proclamation I kicked the Psycho in the head knocking him out cold.
